A very comfortable run - never really pushed, as I was saving myself for the 400m. 55 for first 300, the 73 and 74 for the middle two laps, and 68 for the last lap. No sprint, and recover about 60 seconds after the race, so well within myself - ideally in sub-4:20 shape at the moment.

4:36.010/11/05706

State-relays - very conservative run to gauge hamstring recovery. Didn't sprint at the end, even though plenty of petrol in the tank - almost totally aerobic run.

After some ordinary warm-up throws and some feedback from Jim, this one just kinda came together, and was actually quite competitive (given the others ahead of me were all 100kg+). Feeling more and more optimistic about this event.

Not a distasterous run, given the state of the track and the windy conditions, but not as quick as I would have liked. Held my form OK down the home straight, but nothing special. Experience has shown that it takes 4-5 400m races for my body to get used to the second 200m, so along with some 400m specific intervals, these times should start to get competitive in March.

After two crappy throws, this one was much better, although it went further than I thought. 40cm PB, and almost to 9m now.

Practice throw - put two out to this distance.

Disappointing, despite winning comfortably. Run-up was good, but jumps were just going through the motions - no real power off the board. This event needs a lot of work, but Jim said all the basic ingredients are there to get over 6m.

100m

Background
My current PB is hand-timed (meaning it is probably flattering), on grass (which means I can probably go faster). Combine these two offsetting factors, and it is pretty close to the mark (I've run 12 dead electronically timed). My PB was run in 1994 (most of my PBs are over 10 years old), when I wasn't doing any weight training or sprint work, but was racing weekly.

Potential

The 100m is the first event of the double decathlon. It is also the shortest, so there is not reason why you couldn't run a PB.

As I intend to do significant amounts of weight training to help with throws, jumps and shorter sprints, I should be more physically attuned to the demands of this event. My starts are, in a word, shocking, and ideally some good coaching will add a couple of tenths here. Likewise, I have never really practised my technique, and know that it is far from text book.

A slight tail wind for once, but run on longish wet grass, so not really ideal conditions. Ordinary start, but caught the early leader by about 40m and gradually pulled away. A much better run than Homebush, but still more work on starts, technique and power.

12.8017/12/05502
Run into a fairly strong (-1.8m) headwind, I didn't feel smooth or fast, but did win the race. Not a bad return, but a long way to go to sub-12.
